The Nürburgring Nordschleife, the legendary circuit known to car enthusiasts worldwide as the "Green Hell", has once again witnessed a production-derived performance car break historic records. On April 2, 2026, the Ford GT Mk IV, Ford's ultimate track-only supercar, clocked a stunning lap time of 6:15.977 driven by Belgian racing driver Frédéric Vervisch, rewriting multiple benchmarks at the iconic German track.

With this achievement, the Ford GT Mk IV not only becomes the fastest American car in Nürburgring history but also decisively outperforms a roster of highly anticipated top-tier electric hypercars, including the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype (6:22.091) and the Lotus Evija (6:24.047). It now firmly occupies the third position on the Nürburgring all-time lap time leaderboard. Only two purpose-built record-breaking prototype race cars—unbound by production regulations—stand ahead of it: the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo (5:19.546) and the Volkswagen ID.R (6:05.336).

The record-setting Ford GT Mk IV represents the final, limited-edition swan song of the third-generation Ford GT lineup. Hand-built and restricted to just 67 units globally, this vehicle is not street-legal and exists purely as a no-compromise track machine engineered exclusively for top-tier circuit performance. Ford collaborated extensively with Multimatic, Canada's premier racing manufacturer, to comprehensively reengineer every aspect of the car, from its powertrain and chassis to its advanced aerodynamics package.

Under the hood lies a specially reinforced and extensively calibrated 3.8-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The powerplant features custom forged pistons, a reinforced crankshaft, high-performance turbochargers, and a bespoke ECU, delivering a maximum output of 820 horsepower and over 1,000 Newton-meters of torque. A dry-sump lubrication system ensures uninterrupted engine oil supply even during extreme high-speed cornering, maintaining consistent performance throughout the lap. Power is transferred to the wheels via a 6-speed or 7-speed sequential racing gearbox from Xtrac, which uses electronically controlled clutches for straight-cut gear engagement, enabling millisecond-fast shifts and near-100% power transmission efficiency.
