KTM Unveils All-New 1390 Super Adventure R, Redefining the Benchmark for Flagship Adventure Motorcycles

Since its inception, the KTM Super Adventure lineup has defined the industry standard for full-size adventure motorcycles with its uncompromising performance DNA. From the groundbreaking 100-horsepower 950 Adventure to the evolutionary 990, 1190 and 1290 generations, every model has pushed the boundaries of what adventure riding can be. Now, the all-new 1390 Super Adventure R takes the torch, elevating the flagship ADV power benchmark to new heights: its engine delivers a staggering 173 horsepower and 142 Nm of peak torque, providing abundant, responsive power on demand and outperforming all rivals in its class.

The legendary LC8 engine powering the 1390 Super Adventure R not only benefits from increased displacement but also features the innovative CamShift variable valve timing technology, which made its debut on the 2024 Super Duke. When engine speed reaches approximately 6,000 rpm, an electronic actuator seamlessly switches the intake camshaft profile to a more aggressive mapping, allowing more air and fuel into the cylinders. This technology delivers the best of both worlds: smoother operation and improved fuel efficiency for urban riding, combined with unprecedented mid-range punch and top-end power when you need it most.

KTM engineers have extracted an additional 1.5 horsepower purely through efficiency improvements, achieved via upgraded connecting rods, a new water pump, reduced internal friction, a completely redesigned cylinder head, and larger, shorter throttle bodies. Notably, the new valve seat design doubles the valve adjustment interval, significantly lowering long-term maintenance costs for owners. The engine's power delivery has also been refined at the lower end, enabling more efficient highway cruising and enhanced control in low-speed technical terrain. The cooling system has received a comprehensive overhaul as well: a new two-piece radiator design paired with redesigned fan blades and separate cooling circuits for the front and rear cylinders provides more precise temperature regulation, while effectively directing heat away from the rider for improved comfort during extended rides.

On the chassis front, the WP suspension fitted to the 1390 Super Adventure R delivers exceptional support and damping performance, effortlessly absorbing bumps and rough terrain. Engage Sport mode, and the bike carves through corners with the agility of a large-displacement super motorcycle, shattering the stereotype of heavy, cumbersome adventure bikes. KTM has also tuned the lean-sensitive rider aids to near perfection, offering robust safety protection while preserving ample riding pleasure. For riders focused on off-road adventures, the optional Rally Mode provides highly customizable electronic system settings, including the new dynamic slip adjustment feature.
