Some of our buyers are new to electric motorcycles(Max speed >60 mph) and they don't know how to register fast speed electric motorcycles in the US.
Here is some valid information we can provide. We hope it will be helpful to you.
Step1: Make sure the electric motorcycle has got the DOT approval.
You will need to check with the supplier to see if this electric motorcycle is DOT certified and verify it on the NHTSA website to make sure the supplier is not lying.
Step2: How to get the CBP 7501 form-Entery Summary from forwarder.
If you need ONE sample with an lithium battery, then congratulations on your new shipping problem.
Our suggestion is to transport the electric motorbike (frame) and lithium battery separately to ensure that you can get the CBP 7501 form from the freight forwarder.
We recommend that you use DHL or another courier to ship the frame to your door. Their process is standardised and will ensure that you get your CBP 7501 from.
In our experience, it is much cheaper to contact DHL locally in the US and ask them to ship the frame from China to the US than what DHL in China quotes. (Honestly the cost difference is too big)
In the meantime you can find or have your supplier find another freight forwarder to ship the lithium battery. (DHL does not ship lithium batteries in mainland China)
Step3: Check with the DMV to see if an EPA certificate is required to register an electric motorbike.
Check with your supplier to see if they can provide the EPA certificate.
Be sure to check with your local DMV to see if an EPA certificate is required for registration. (Some states do not require an EPA certificate for registration).
Step4: CO, HS-7 declaration
Please ask your supplier for a certificate of origin and a DOT HS-7 declaration
All of the documents must match the company name that's registered with DOT.
